Emergency lighting

Emergency Lighting for Evacuation Routes and Exits

Emergency lighting is designed for spaces where orientation and visibility of movement direction must be ensured in the event of main lighting failure. It is used in corridors, staircases, exits, evacuation routes, offices, commercial buildings, public spaces, warehouses, production areas, garages and industrial facilities.

This category is part of the broader Industrial Lighting category, as emergency lights are often used in technical, commercial, public and working buildings. Their purpose is not decorative lighting, but safety and orientation lighting in situations where the main lighting does not work or where an exit must be clearly marked.

LED Emergency Lights, Emergency and Safety Lighting

LED emergency lights are suitable for spaces where reliable light is important in emergency situations. The terms emergency lighting, safety lighting and panic lighting are often used for similar solutions related to illuminating routes, exits and evacuation directions.

An emergency light, LED emergency light, LED safety light or panic light should be selected according to the space, installation method, visibility of the sign, operating autonomy, battery or accumulator and the technical requirements of the building. When planning larger buildings, emergency lighting is usually combined with basic technical lighting, for example from the LED Tubes category in corridors, warehouses and work areas.

Emergency Exit Lights and Pictograms

An emergency exit light is intended to mark evacuation directions, doors, corridors and exit routes. An emergency light with a pictogram, exit sign light or emergency exit pictogram helps users quickly identify the correct direction of movement.

When choosing a product, it is important to check the visibility of the pictogram, installation method, sign direction, type of light and installation location. An emergency exit light can be wall-mounted, ceiling-mounted, suspended, recessed or surface-mounted. For staircases, landings and lower passageways, emergency lighting can be complemented with the Stair Lighting category, which focuses on orientation lighting for stairs and safer movement.

Emergency Lights with Battery and 3h Autonomy

An emergency light with a battery or accumulator allows operation even when the main power supply is not available. When choosing a product, it is important to check the autonomy, charging method, lamp power, type of light source, connection method and technical data of the individual product.

A common choice is an emergency light with 3-hour autonomy or a 3h emergency light when longer illumination of an evacuation route is required. In buildings with several corridors, exits or staircases, it is important that the lights are arranged so that the direction of movement remains clearly visible even during main lighting failure.

Installation of Emergency Lights

Emergency lighting can be installed in different ways. A ceiling-mounted emergency light is suitable for corridors, commercial spaces, warehouses and public buildings. A wall-mounted emergency light is often used near exits, doors and evacuation direction signs.

A recessed emergency light or recessed LED emergency light is suitable where a more discreet appearance or installation into a prepared opening is desired. A surface-mounted emergency light or surface-mounted LED emergency light is practical for easier installation on existing surfaces. In spaces with moisture, dust or more demanding conditions, the Waterproof Lights category may also be relevant.

Emergency Lighting in Commercial, Public and Industrial Buildings

Emergency lighting for commercial buildings, public buildings, industry, warehouses, production areas, garages, corridors, staircases and offices is an important part of a building’s technical equipment. In larger spaces, it is necessary to consider the layout of the lights, visibility of signs, movement routes, exit locations and required autonomy.

For automatic control of basic lighting in corridors, garages, warehouses and passageways, Lighting Sensors and Detectors can be useful, but they do not replace emergency lighting. For general lighting in corridors, warehouses or work zones, emergency lighting can also be complemented with the Linear Lights category where uniform basic lighting is required.
